COGGO has made a major investment to breed wheat varieties in WA, along with its partner Australian Grain Technologies (AGT), in forming the joint venture AGT-WA. AGT is a nationally focussed wheat breeding company with its headquarters in Adelaide, South Australia with its shareholders being University of Adelaide, South Australian Research Institute, GRDC and the international breeding group, Limagrain. COGGO has a 30% share in AGT-WA with AGT holding the other 70% share. COGGO contributes two directors to a 5 member Board for AGT-WA.

AGT-WA is dedicated to focus on the development of wheat varieties suited to the Western Australian environment. Its main operating base is in Esperance which provides ready access to a range of environments covering different soil types, rainfall, and biotic and abiotic stresses. COGGO has rolled all its wheat germplasm developed by Grain Biotechnology Australia Pty Ltd into AGT-WA and AGT has rolled in all the germplasm it has developed specifically for WA. The Senior Wheat Breeder for AGT-WA is Mr Kevin Young, who is well known to growers in Western Australia for his previous work as a research agronomist within DAFWA, where he was actively involved with the breeding programs.

Nick Joyce is AGT's Senior Marketing and Operations Manager.

Advanced breeding lines developed by AGT-WA will also be evaluated in the Eastern states and any varieties shown to have a place in those regions will be marketed there.

Under the joint venture agreement, COGGO Seeds will provide seed production and marketing services in WA for varieties released by AGT-WA.
